🔙On July 20, the second meeting of the Calliope Youth Literary Club was held, which was entirely dedicated to the life and work of Ernest Hemingway on the occasion of his birth on 07/21/1899.
👥Part of the team of OP "Youth Center Plovdiv" introduced the participants to the thematic activities they went through, experiencing the plot of the book "The Old Man and the Sea", which was chosen at the first meeting of the Club.
🎯The beginning was set with the so-called "Fact Line", where the young people had the opportunity to discover a curious fact about Hemingway and connect it with the corresponding photo that reflects it. This spurred the participants even more enthusiastically into the next activity where they had to find the different types of fish mentioned in the book and arrange them in a logical order to get a short story similar to the ones Hemingway himself wrote. In this way, everyone was able to touch this art and skill of creating and telling in just a few words.
📖In the next session, the participants split into groups to discuss what they thought the backstory of The Old Man and the Sea could be and what the ending would be. Thus, book lovers left their authentic handwriting and an attractive idea.
💡Quotes from the book, pasted around the library, inspired the youth to choose one each and share in the discussion more about it, its message and meaning. This led to the final and meaningful discussion of Hemingway's seemingly static classic, which hides a lot of dynamism and depth. The whole experience was accompanied by the sounds of the sea, which aimed to recreate the setting and the place from the book.
