Every year on 8 April Youth Centre Plovdiv celebrates International Roma Day. This year we implemented two youth initiatives on the occasion.
The first of them - "Sport educates, movement entertains and a smile is a reward" was held at the sports complex of the Municipal Enterprise "Youth Center Plovdiv". Its organizer was Gorcho Masliev.
Students from three Plovdiv schools - Nayden Gerov Secondary School Yordan Yovkov Primary School and Panayot Volov Primary School participated to test their strength in the sports competition. The enthusiastic cheerleaders of the three teams attractively supported their favourites. After two hours of contested and sportsmanlike play with two victories and a goal difference of 5:2, the cup was awarded to the team of the Yordan Yovkov Primary School.
Later on the same day, an initiative of the youth from the village of Shishmantsi Evening of Talents was held, organized by Lyubcho Dimchev. We had the pleasure of enjoying the wonderful dancers from the local dance school Todorovi who were in a whirlwind of Indian, hip-hop and folk dances. The artists from the Aberation Literary Creative Workshop read their works to us, immersing us in the magical world of poems and prose. The charming and uniquely talented first-grader Anastasia Dimova captivated us with her performances of the songs Drive, mother, who are you driving with the accompaniment of a bagpipe and Bulgarian Power, and finally impressed us with her performances on the synthesizer - Etude 62 and Gnome.
The evening ended with Bulgarian hora from the group that participated in the "Month of Folk Dances" initiative, and the audience also joined in the final hora.
The youth initiative is realized as part of the project "Youth Centre Plovdiv - a powerful factor for local development" under the program "Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Enhanced Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021.
