Guest lecturers in the Young Explorer Program

The fourth and fifth meetings of the educational program "Young Researcher" of OP "Youth Center Plovdiv" were held with guest speakers. The fourth meeting was dedicated to working with the brown bear (Ursus arctos) - the largest land predator in Europe. Dr. Vladimir Todorov from the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research (IBEI) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) spoke on the topic. Dr. Todorov is the only active bear specialist in the country. An interactive presentation presented the state of the bear population in Bulgaria, the conflict "Man - Wildlife" and important information about the life and activity of these predators.

There was also a discussion about the current clashes between humans and bears and what is the right thing to do in such situations. The young people showed interest in the opportunities for scientific career in Bulgaria. During the discussion, the activities of the organization "Bear Stories" were presented, which aims to present bears to the public and help people get to know them in an interesting and attractive way.

At the fifth meeting of the program guest speaker was Nikolay Nikolov - mediator in OP "Youth Center Plovdiv". The topic was the green economy and opportunities for cooperation between business and the environment. The idea of ​​a circular economy was presented and how businesses operating with environmentally friendly methods actually earn more. Participants shared how they contribute to the environment and what they would like to do in the future.

Education as environmental protection was presented by popular science films about Bulgarian nature. The young people shared that the program is interesting and the meetings are pleasant and at the same time informative. All expressed a desire for more field research and activities in nature, where you can learn the most on the topics in "Young Researcher".
