From March 28 to 30, the Municipal Enterprise "Youth Center Plovdiv" hosted the pilot edition of the Upshift innovation camp by UNICEF Bulgaria. The event brought together young people and mentors from the youth centers in Burgas, Dobrich, Plovdiv, and Stara Zagora.
Official guests at our opening were: Ramiz Behbudov - Deputy Representative of Unicef Bulgaria, Vladimir Yordanov - Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Human Resources Development, Mr. Nikolay Buhalov - Deputy Mayor "Sports, Youth Activities and Social Policy" and Elena Zlatanova - Consultant for Development and Engagement of Adolescents at Unicef Bulgaria.

The program was focused on developing new skills among young people and empowering them. Over the course of three days, under the guidance of facilitators and mentors, participants set goals and developed projects aimed at solving social issues and challenges present in their communities and cities.

On the third day, all projects were presented, covering topics such as ecology, educational innovations, restoration, and integration. A jury selected five out of eight teams to receive funding for their projects. The jury members were:
Nikolay Bukhalov – Deputy Mayor for Sports, Youth Activities, and Social Policy
Velichka Lazarova – Director of the Municipal Enterprise "Youth Center Plovdiv"
Anastasia Chocheva – Member of the commission in the "Best Young Entrepreneur" competition in Plovdiv

The teams that won funding from UNICEF Bulgaria are:
"FasOFF" – Installing cigarette butt bins in key youth spaces in Plovdiv; a project by a team from "Youth Center Plovdiv" with mentor Galabina Atanasova
"Back to Nature" – Restoration of eco-trails; a project by a team from MMC Burgas with mentor Rusen Gigov

In the coming months, these youth initiatives will be implemented in the cities connected to the projects.

It was an honor and a pleasure for the Youth Center Plovdiv to host and organize an event of this scale.

The team of the Municipal Enterprise "Youth Center Plovdiv" sincerely thanks UNICEF Bulgaria for the opportunity to hold this innovation workshop in our city! We wish the winning teams success in bringing their initiatives to life!
