Born on 28.07.1964 in Plovdiv

Olympic vice-champion at the Summer Olympics of 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, Aleksandar Hristov also took part at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA, in 1996. He also won a quota for the Barcelona 1992 Summer Olympic Games but was not included in the team. He competed in the category of up to 54 kg for the team of Lokomotiv (Plovdiv), and during his time as a soldier – for the team of CSKA. From 1990 until 1996, he competed for clubs in the German cities of Halle, Esslingen and Alain. He graduated from the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy in 2000 and went to Hamm in Germany where he worked as a coach for a year. There he took the Hamm Boxing Club from the Oberliga to the Bundesliga.

Hristov is one of the best Bulgarian boxers of all time in the category of up to 54 kg. He is also World Champion from Tampere, Finland, 1993 and World Cup winner from Bangkok, Thailand, 1994. Hristov is European champion of the Railmen Championship in Moscow in 1984 and European champion of Turin, Italy, in 1987, as well as vice-champion from 1985 in Budapest, Hungary. He won a bronze medal from the Championship in Vejle, Denmark, in 1996 and was also the winner of the 1986 European Cup in Leningrad (present-day St. Petersburg), Russia. He won 7 (4 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) medals from major championships. He ended his sports career after the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA.

Hristov has ranked four times on the Top 10 Best athletes of Bulgaria list (in 1987 and 1988 he ranked seventh, in 1993 – eighth, and in 1994– ninth). He competed in 380 meetings at international rings, of which he lost only 15. His coaches were Yordan Kalvachev and Dimitar Dobrev. In 1998, Aleksandar Hristov founded his own boxing school by the name of Sasho Hristov.
