Born on 22.02.1957 in Perushtitsa Anka Bakova won a bronze medal at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games in women’s rowing quadruple sculls. She started training rowing in 1972 under Milka Kuleva and became a multiple republican champion and a laureate from a number of renowned regattas. Bakova won a medal at every one of the five World Cup championships she took part in – gold from New Zealand in 1978 in quadruple sculls, silver from Bled, Yugoslavia, in 1979, two bronze medals from Amsterdam, Holland, 1977 in quadruple sculls, and from Munich, Germany in 1981 in double sculls. In her last participation at a World Cup in 1982 she ranked sixth. In 1984 at the Druzhba tournament in Moscow, Russia, Bakova won a silver medal in double sculls.
