Anka Uzunova - Volleyball

 

Born on 12.01.1955 in Koprivlen, Blagoevgrad District

Anka Uzunova was a member of the national team of Bulgaria, who won a bronze medal at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games in Russia. She took her first steps in volleyball in 1968 under the coaches Ivan Batev and Kiril Nedev, and later competed for the Maritsa (Plovdiv) team (1970 – 1981 and 1986). From 1981 until 1992 Uzunova played in the Italian championship for the teams of Bari, Campobasso, Noventa Vincentina, Legnano, and Pordenone. She helped the Bulgarian team become European champion at the 1981 Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria. She also has a bronze medal from the 1979 Continental Championship in Lion, France. Uzunova also played at the European Championships in 1975 in Belgrade, Serbia (fourth place), in 1983 in Berlin, Germany (fourth place), and in 1985 Amsterdam, the Netherlands (fifth place). She took part in more than 260 games with the national team of Bulgaria. In 1988 Uzunova started her coaching career with Campobasso, Italy and later on trained the team of Bari, Italy. She was awarded “Honorary sign of the city of Plovdiv” 2019.
