Born on 29.07.1957 in Plovdiv
Bogdan Dobrev is part of the only Bulgarian team to ever win an Olympic medal. Dobrev, Lyubomir Petrov, Ivo Rusev and Mincho Nikolov ranked third at quad scull in 1980 in Moscow, Russia. At the 1977 World Championship in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, he ranked third at quad scull, and in 1978 in New Zealand he was fifth with the same boat.
Dobrev started training rowing in 1972 under the coach Andon Andonov, with whom he achieved his best results. He competed for the team of Trakiya Plovdiv. In the period from 1976 until 1978 Dobrev was in the military and competed for the team of CSKA. After ending his competitive sports career he became a coach at the Vasil Levski Sports School in Plovdiv. Dobrev is an Honored Master of Sports and winner of state awards.
