Ginka Gurova - Rowing

 

Born on 15.04.1954 in Simeonovets, Pazardzhik District

Ginka Gyurova is silver medalist from the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games and from the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games at quadruple sculls with a helmsman.

She participated in the first World Women’s Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1974 at eight sculls. In 1975 at the World Championship in Nottingham, Great Britain, Gyurova won a silver medal at quadruple sculls with a helmsman. This is the first medal for Plovdiv from rowing championship. In 1978, in New Zealand, she was fourth in double sculls without a helmsman, and in Bled, Yugoslavia in 1979 – sixth in the same boat.

Gyurova graduated from the National Sports Academy. She started practicing rowing in 1970 under Milka Kuleva. Gyurova competed only for the team of Trakiya (Plovdiv).

Ginka Gyurova became a methodist and later vice-chairman of the Trakiya Canoe-Kayak Club. In the period from 2003 until 2009 she was the Chief Expert in the Sports Department, Head of the Sports Department and Director of the Sport and Youth Activities Directorate at the Plovdiv Municipality. Gyurova has been an honorary citizen of Plovdiv since 2003.
