Magdalena Georgieva - Rowing

 

Born on 07.12.1962 гin Brestovitsa, Plovdiv District

Magdalena Georgieva is a Bronze medalist on skiff from the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. Georgieva has won seven medals from World Championships and Olympic Games in the period 1984 – 1990. At the 1984 Druzhba Olympic Tournament she won a bronze medal on skiff. In 1985 at the World Championship in Hazewinkel, Belgium, with Violeta Ninova, she won a bronze medal at double scull. Georgieva is also silver medalist from the 1986 World Championship in Nottingham, England. She won a gold medal in 1987 during the Copenhagen World Cup, Denmark, with the impressive difference of over 15 seconds before the second, which was the first medal for Bulgaria in this discipline. At the 1989 World Championship in Bled, Slovenia, Magdalena Georgieva and Pavlina Aleksandrova won a bronze medal at double scull. She also has a bronze medal at quad scull from the same competition. In 1989, for the first time, competitors took part in two disciplines. Thus, Georgieva and Aleksandrova became the first and only contestants with two medals from one World Championship. In 1988, in Lucerne, Switzerland, Georgieva set a record at the skiff discipline. During world championships for girls in 1979 and 1980 she won two silver medals at the quad discipline.

Magdalena Georgieva graduated from the Vasil Levski Sports School and the Vasil Levski National Sports Academy. She started training rowing in 1976 under the coach Georgi Yankov Georgiev in the Trakiya Army Sports Society.
