Sylvia Germanova - Basketball

Silviya Germanova is an Olympic vice champion of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games in Russia. She started her sports carrier as an athlete and was preparing under the coach Mitko Todorov. In 1973 the specialist Hristo Kostov attracted her to basketball. Until 1982 she played for the Plovdiv team of Akademik, after which she moved to the team of Levski-Spartak. With this team, Germanova became a European champion in 1984, six times champion of the country and six times winner of the National Cup. Under the leadership of Ivan Galabov, she played for the national team for a period of 9 years. She has more than 300 selections at the national team and was captain of the national team, which won second place at the European Championship in Vicenza and Treviso, Italy, in 1985. She also participated in the continental championship in Banja Luka, Yugoslavia in 1980 and in Ancona – Senigallia, Italy in 1981, where the Bulgarian team took fifth place. Germanova also played in two World Championships – in 1983, Brazil, with sixth place, and in 1986, in the USSR, with seventh place. From 1990 until 2002, she competed for the teams of Villeurbanne, Marignane, SLUC and Bengali in France, where she was chosen among the top 10 foreign players playing in the French championship. Silviya Germanova also received the Honorary Sign of Plovdiv.
